There are not many tougher away trips in European football than travelling north of the Arctic Circle in February, and that is exactly what Inter Milan must do when they visit Bodø/Glimt at Aspmyra. Freezing temperatures, artificial turf and a side full of belief after stunning results against European heavyweights – for me, this is far from a comfortable scenario for the Italian giants.

We have to start with what Bodø/Glimt achieved in the final part of the league phase. Beating Manchester City 3-1 at home was already extraordinary, but then going to Madrid and winning 1-2 against Atlético showed something even more important: personality away from home, against elite opposition, under pressure. Those six points were not accidental. They were built on intensity, courage in possession and a very clear tactical identity under Kjetil Knutsen.

Throughout the group stage they competed in every single match. Draws against Slavia Prague, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund, a narrow late defeat against Juventus, and only one game without scoring. This is a team that always believes it can hurt the opponent. They press aggressively, attack quickly after regaining the ball and commit numbers forward without fear.

The Norwegian league finished in November, which means Bodø/Glimt have had time to rest and prepare specifically for this tie. Physically they should be sharp and fresh. Apart from Ulrik Saltnes, the squad is almost fully available, and Knutsen is expected to rely on the same core that delivered those historic wins against City and Atlético. Continuity in these types of games is crucial.

Then there is Aspmyra stadium. The artificial pitch changes the speed of passes and the bounce of the ball. Of course, Inter arrive in strong domestic form. In Europe, they were only one point away from the automatic top eight. On paper, they are favourites.

But I am not convinced this will be straightforward for them. Inter have conceded goals recently, even in matches they controlled. Against Juventus, despite playing with a man advantage for a long period, they still allowed their rivals back into the game twice. That tells me there are small defensive vulnerabilities, especially in transitions. And transitions are exactly where Bodø/Glimt are most dangerous.

If Patrick Berg can dictate tempo in midfield and Høgh attacks the spaces behind Inter’s back three, the Norwegians will create chances. The key will be intensity from the first whistle. Bodø must make this chaotic, emotional and uncomfortable. I believe they have everything needed to do it.

Inter’s experience in two-legged ties is undeniable, but this first leg in Norway is a different story. For me, Bodø/Glimt have already shown they can rise to these occasions. With the crowd behind them, in their own climate and on their own surface, I see them fully capable of getting a positive result and heading to Milan very much alive in this tie.
